Torbay Lifestyles & Care has been providing residential aged care services to the people of Hervey Bay since 1976. With 150 residential aged care rooms and a large team of specialist staff, Torbay required a uniform that not only suited the functional needs of the staff but also aligned with the community culture they wanted to foster within their facility.
Torbay came to Total Uniform Solutions to refresh their uniform “look” and have control over the uniform program expenditure across the team. Previously, Torbay’s uniform allowance was incorporated into staff wages, and it was the employee’s responsibility to purchase their uniforms directly with the supplier. This meant there was no control or guarantee their allowance would be spent on uniforms.
Their new uniform range was curated through a series of face-to-face, phone and email consultations. Samples were produced to check quality, colour and fit.
Our B2BHub online ordering system allows Torbay to give team members to have tight control over their annual uniform budget, assign a uniform allowance to each type of role within the business so users can only spend the uniform budget they are allocated. This has significantly improved the overall costs of the uniform program.
Due to the fact that Total Uniform Solutions is both a supplier and manufacturer of uniforms, the client opted for a hybrid solution. The stock uniform range we offer includes off-the-shelf outerwear (jackets, vests and knitwear) and bottoms (pants and skirts). These items are embroidered with the Torbay logo and the employee’s name and job role by our in-house embroidery experts as required.
We also created a custom polo shirt and tunic for staff – inspired by Torbay’s coastal location – which were manufactured in bulk and warehoused in our company-owned facility. As ordered, these items are customised with an embroidered name and job role on each garment. Many organisations opt for name badges, however when we discovered that Torbay were having issues with staff losing their name badges we suggested this option. By integrating the identification onto the garment, it also reduced the risk of the name badge being accidentally pulled off by a resident or physically getting in the way of their duties.
The online ordering portal makes the ordering process much easier for individual staff and managers alike – as it’s all controlled within the one system. Every staff member has a unique login, that is controlled through a centralised cost centre which has been transformative for Torbay’s uniform budget control.
Onboarding new staff is quick and easy, and team members are able to get into uniform faster. Total Uniform Solutions also manages the warehousing and stock levels for Torbay. This means that staff receive their goods within 10 days from placing their order – which includes the custom embroidery of their name and role.
The custom uniforms have been well-received and adopted by the team, managers are finding the system significantly easier to oversee their team’s uniform expenditure, and delivery of the uniforms is now faster than it was previously.
